The right of access to information cannot be minimized or be deemed as a less important right during the pandemic: Acuña Llamas

May 28, 2020 / COVID-19 / Privacy and Personal Data Protection

The Commission President of the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information, and Protection of Personal Data (INAI), Francisco Javier Acuña Llamas, stated that the right of access to information cannot be minimized in any way nor be deemed as a less important right during the pandemic. Acuña Llamas mentioned that the right of access to information during a health emergency allows people to achieve or recover their health.

«The right of access to information is highly linked with the right to life and health, and the right to privacy is also related when personal data are endangered».

In addition, he pointed out that INAI, together with the guarantor bodies, is working to help the country in this delicate and serious moment of transition, finding solutions and smoothing out problems.
