The Greek Parliament’s passage of Law 4686/2020 in June 2020 marked the first practical step toward simplifying the procedure. Furthermore, foreign investors can purchase real estate in Greece without being required to visit the country.
In response to growing interest from applicants, on December 23, 2020, the government took a further step by passing an amendment to Law No. 4764/4040 and streamlining the process as follows:
- The applicant appoints a legal representative in the Hellenic Republic;
- The legal representative assists the applicant in preparing all relevant documentation, without the applicant needing to be present;
- The applicant selects a property of their choice, with the assistance of their designated legal representative;
- The legal representative submits the application along with all the necessary documentation;
- A temporary blue permit valid for 12 months is issued, and the legal representative receives it on behalf of the applicant and their dependents;
- The applicant and the holder of the temporary blue permit may visit Greece to provide their biometric data within 12 months of the date the application was submitted;
- The process is completed, and the applicant, along with their dependent family members and spouse, receive the Greek Golden Visa.
