Digitalization and legal technology have experienced exponential growth in the Mexican market in recent years. This phenomenon has been driven by the need to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve access to legal services. The implementation of digital tools in the legal field has not only revolutionized the way lawyers and law firms operate, but has also had a significant impact on the accessibility of legal services for the general public.

One of the most notable innovations in the Mexican legal sector has been the introduction and widespread implementation of electronic signatures. This tool has streamlined procedures and contracts, reducing wait times and the costs associated with traditionally manual processes. In addition, the digitization of legal files and documents has improved the efficiency of records management, facilitating access to information and data-driven decision-making.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) andmachine learning in the legal field has also begun to gain prominence in Mexico. These technologies are being used to automate repetitive tasks, such as reviewing and comparing documents, as well as drafting simple texts or summaries of laws—including preparing email drafts—allowing legal professionals to focus on higher-value and more complex tasks.  Some law firms are beginning to implement artificial intelligence systems such as Copilot, Harvey, and ChatGPT 4.0, among others.

However, the adoption of these technologies also poses significant challenges. It is essential to update laws and regulations to address the ethical and privacy issues that arise from the use of AI and data analysis. In addition, there is an urgent need to promote training and ongoing professional development for legal professionals in these new technologies, ensuring their proper and effective implementation. Finally, it will be important for Mexican law firms to develop internal policies to implement the use of AI and disclose its use to clients, promoting transparency, informing clients, and seeking approval for the implementation of these new technologies, where applicable.

In conclusion, digitization and legal technology are transforming the Mexican legal market, offering new opportunities to improve the delivery of legal services and reduce fees and costs. As these technologies continue to evolve, their impact on the legal sector is expected to keep growing, which will require ongoing adaptation by legal professionals and an update to the internal policies of legal service providers, as well as to regulations, to ensure their proper integration into the Mexican legal framework.
