June 19, 2020 / COVID-19 / Privacy and Personal Data Protection
The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information, and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) decided to extend to June 30 the period of suspension of procedural deadlines for responding requests and review remedies in access to information and personal data protection matters for obligated persons with non-essential activities.
Acuña Llamas, commission president of the INAI, mentioned that the obligated persons whose activities are deemed essential during the pandemic, such as the health sector, must process and answer the information requests since informing people is just as important as providing medical care or directing the health strategy.
“Informing all people of what is been carried out in order to avoid confusion is just as important as providing medical care and directing the health strategy…”
The Commission President pointed out that the requests submitted to the obligated persons may be handled virtually; therefore, it does not imply any health risk for civil servants.
